Cherri Bornman

Artist. Speaker. Friend.

Cherri Bornman has been making music for more than 40 years and grew up with a love for music from the time she could sit up at a piano as a toddler. Her father was the church organist and song leader and included his children in leading music weekly. At the age of 7 years old Cherri began her formal piano studies. She progressed quickly and began accompanying Sunday morning worship services at the age of 8 years old alongside her father.  She continued her love of music at school & played alto saxophone in the Vestaburg Community School band 5th-12th grade.  She competed in Solo Ensemble for piano & alto saxophone at the highest levels at State Solo Ensemble Competitions her whole HS career.

Cherri continued her music education of private piano & voice as well as choir and Music Theatre at college.  Cherri added Worship Leading at college when she was nominated the Campus Worship Leader of Student Worship ministries for 2 years.  She received her Associates of Liberal Arts degree & certificate in music performance from Hesston College Kansas in 1998. Cherri’s studies and experiences have given her a platform to teach all forms of music, vocal, choral, piano and group ensembles as well as music theater performances.

Cherri has a private studio in Vestaburg, Michigan where she directs an all Girls’ Choir, Musikgarten classes, private voice and piano as well as group keyboard classes. Cherri is a licensed early childhood music teacher through the internationally leading early childhood music program, Musikgarten. Currently she is contracted through Michigan Arts Access as a music teacher to teach music at Early Childhood centers and public schools.

Cherri’s love of music was first expressed in the church and she most enjoys using her gifts of music with Children’s programs and Sunday morning services and served as the Music Arts Director at Crystal Lake Community Church for 18 years before stepping down September 2021.

Cherri's extracurriculars include being an active performer & pianist at the Gratiot County Players Theatre in Alma Michigan, volunteering for worship at her home church at Community Church Alma and traveling to speak and lead worship at women events around Michigan and out of state.

Cherri is passionate about the transforming power of music in a person's life from birth to age 99. Her experience at her private studio, community theater, the local schools and church give her vast experience with working with all ages to transform lives through the power of music.
